Welcome
The Society is dedicated to preserving Bolton's rich historic past, from its founding in 1720 to the 21st century. We annually award the Evelyn W. Halloran Memorial Scholarship and recently helped erect a Veterans Monument and Honor Roll on the Bolton green. We sponsor an annual "Heritage Day" to educate and involve residents in their town's history.
Please try to come to the Bolton Historical Society meeting Thursday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. at Bolton Town Hall. We will be discussing both the Washington/Rochambeau Revolutionary Route and Squaw's Cave and the new highway configuration proposed for Bolton Notch.
Should we now ask that Bolton Notch be a National Scenic Monument or is it a National Historic Monument? The area is continually threatened by highways and other development. The approximate 9+ natural caves in Connecticut's Notch State Park might qualify for National Scenic Monument Protection. One, Squaw Cave, was occupied by Podunk Princess Wunee and Dutch sailor Peter Hager circa 1636 and another, Black Sal's Cave, was occupied by Sally Arron (a Mohegan), her husband, and three children circa 1830.
